Windows 7 Windows Update fails to update RealTek Network Ethernet NIC NDIS 6.0 and NDIS 6.2

Hello all Windows 7 users,

If you have already installed your Windows 7 copy on your computer, I will advice to be careful with Windows Update while downloading and installing updates on your Win7 computer.

Why I take your attention to Windows Update on a Windows 7 computer? I'll try to explain a case I had experienced yesterday.

I had build a new system with the helps of my friends Serkan and Mustafa. By the way Mustafa has his own web site on Cisco Networking and Network Tools. Any way here is my new computer's basic configuration.

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 810 AM3 2.6GHz 6MB Cache 45nm processor
Mainboard - Gigabyte MA78GM-UD2H AM2+ AMD 780G DDR2 1066Mhz HDMI&DVI board
RAM - 4 Gb (2*2GB) KIT XMS2 DDR2 1066Mhz CL5 memory

OK, everything is fine untill I installed the new OS Microsoft Windows 7 X64 Ultimate Edition and tried to check and install the first Windows Update listed installs.

I chosed the optional two Windows Update
Realtek - Network - Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
And the other is ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

Before the Windows Update, I could successfully connect to the Internet but after update the network adapter failed to work properly. So I rolled back to previous driver by using the rollback driver option.
It is interesting that the previous network adapter driver has a version NDIS 6.20
Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)

To summarize, since I did not check the current version of the network driver before installing the Windows Update suggested install, I broke the network adapter.
So you should better check these before updating your Windows 7 drivers. But at least you have the option to rollback to previous driver in case.
